Best Indian Cuisine n Hobart

In 2001, Satchithananthan Chelliah had the idea to start a small family takeaway in the heart of Hobart, Tasmania. He had the inspiration to name it Little India after a small enclave in his hometown in Georgetown, Penang which is vibrant with traders and restaurants from the predominantly Tamil Nadu State in India.

Over 19 years later, Little India has become a pillar of the community, as one of the most popular Indian Takeaways, offering quick, affordable and family friendly meals in Hobart. It maintains its position as a one stop curry station for those who want to try the variety of Indian food without the restaurant price tag.

It is still operated by the same family since its inception and a popular destination for office workers and city shoppers alike. All raw materials are sourced from local farmers and suppliers as much as possible, to support the local businesses and give back to the society it calls home. Halal, meat eater, vegetarian or vegan; no matter what your preference, Little India has a meal for you.

Delicious homely cuisine for lunch. Don’t think it’s too authentic m, since the most spicy one is quit mild. Switch to cheese and garlic naan if you think the naan is too hard.

Over the last few years I have been going on a regular basis meal sizes have gone down, and price stayed the same. Food is absolutely delicious, and service is friendly.

Delicious! Ready to go, but still hot. Listed allergens (gluten dairy nuts). Even though Indian is mostly gluten free, i like that it was listed! I had the chilli chicken and lamb Marsala with rice. Regular, $13.50. Lots of meat!

We stopped at this little Indian canteen style restaurant for lunch and it turned out delicious! You can have a choice of one or several curries with rice or naans - both really yummy - for moderate price and the dishes are really good!!! We had the butter chicken and the mango chicken, the latter being incredibly flavorful!! A must try !!

Absolutely love this place. Have been going for years. Good pricing and the dishes are excellent. I love the butter chicken, but the mango chicken is definitely my favourite. The cheese naan is a great addition to any meal there.
